HSAs for adult children & spouses

If you have adult children (under age 26) who are covered by your high-deductible health plan and not a tax dependent, they may be eligible to open an HSA with PayFlex. They could contribute up to the family contribution limit (set by the Internal Revenue Service) to their own HSA.

If you’re under age 26, covered by your parent’s high-deductible health plan and not a tax dependent, you may be eligible to open an HSA with PayFlex. You could contribute up to the family contribution limit to the HSA.

If you have a spouse (age 55 or older) who is covered by your high-deductible health plan, they may be eligible to open an HSA with PayFlex. They could contribute up to $1,000 to their own HSA. Have another HSA? You can roll those funds over to a PayFlex HSA.

Important Information

HSA interest rates changing
Effective October 1, 2021, PayFlex adjusted the Health Savings Account (HSA) interest rates.

  • For HSA cash balances from $0 - $2,000.00, the interest rate decreased to 0.01% (from .05%).

  • For HSA cash balances from $2,000.01 or more, the interest rate remains the same at 0.05%.

This change is due to the continued impact COVID-19 is having on the economy. You’ll see your updated interest rate on your November 2021 statement for October activity.

Best documents to send with your FSA claims
When you submit an FSA claim for reimbursement, your documents must show:

*We can’t accept documents that show an “estimated” or “pending” amount from insurance.
